Love aside of empathy! Ah this is so true. Love for each other. That is so lacking these days. I think we might give ourselves as a collective too much grace when it comes to love. We dont share love enough.
I enjoyed your article/essay immensely. In your first few paragraphs you turned my own internal struggles for identity into a child's game of hide-and-seek. When I write fiction I normally find that, as in life, a character grows as the story progresses. In some cases, the character writes itself, as do most of my stories, write themselves. (I am new to Substack and have yet to post anything, but I shall). I also resonated with the quote, "The reader comes with their own baggage."
I have an emotional therapist ( my emotions, not his), Dr. Nutcracker. On the few occasions I've shared my writing with him he analyses me through my fiction - it drives me nuts, which is why I'm there in the first place, a literary vicious circle. What that quote has made me realize is that Dr. Nutcracker brings his own baggage to my writing.
The fact that you're mixed gives you so much empathy and insight. Your personal contradictions are what make you so special. While it's hard to live as an enlightened being, it's such a blessing. You are here to educate others. I know this because I think I too have this challenge. You and I are sister soul mates. I wrote a short story titled. "What Color Am I." I'm going to send it to you. Lot's of love, Margie :)
I love what you said about the house metaphor. It is true we might not realize which parts we didn’t build. Also, love the aside about empathy.

I love your stuff :)
Lovely and profound. Thank you!
